MP calls for Windfall Energy and Supermarket Tax
1st August 2008
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has called for an immediate on-off windfall tax on energy companies. This follows vast price increases announced by energy companies and at the same time recording significant profits totalling £15.6 billion
Dr Francis said,
'The Labour Government should impose the windfall tax on the profits of the big three energy companies in order to help people cope with rising fuel bills, particularly the most vulnerable in our communities such as the elderly and young families.'
Dr Francis added;
'There should be a similar windfall tax on supermarket profits. Energy and food price rises are the biggest concerns facing many of my constituents. The Government needs to take action now to help ease these unacceptable additional financial burdens.'
