MP welcomes clean air investment
4th February 2008
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has welcomed a large new investment by Corus as a significant contribution towards air quality in the town.
Dr Francis said,
'Today's announcement by Corus of a £60 million investment into energy management technology at Port Talbot steel plant is a most welcome environmental development. In reducing carbon dioxide emissions at the site and re-using gas generated at the BOS plant, this will be a widely popular development.'
Dr Francis added,
'Not only does this indicate Corus' long term commitment to the plant it is a major contribution to the clean air campaign which I have recently launched. Alongside Dr Brian Gibbons AM and Councillor Derek Vaughan, Leader of the Neath Port Talbot Council we have called on local businesses and trade unions to make a contribution to this campaign.'
Dr Francis finally added,
'We are delighted that Port Talbot's biggest private sector employer is showing such a good example in the drive towards cleaner air locally.'
