Aberavon MP, Dr Hywel Francis welcomes 'It's your call' minimum wage campaign
20th November 2008
Dr Hywel Francis this week welcomed the Labour Government's new campaign to boost awareness of the national minimum wage (NMW) and help expose cases of underpayment throughout his Aberavon consitituency. Last year's nationwide campaign distributed hundreds of thousands of leaflets and spoke directly to over 87,000 people about their employment rights.
The 'IT'S YOUR CALL' campaign unit is travelling to 28 towns and cities across the UK for the next eight weeks providing free help and information to members of the public. You can also call the FREE NMW hotline on: 0845 6000 678.
The aim of the campaign is to reach people directly to tell them of their rights to the minimum wage, to help them calculate whether they are receiving the minimum wage and enable them to report underpayment. The unit and hotline is staffed by fully trained advisers able to answer questions from workers and employers about the NMW and advise them on what to do if they have a complaint or a more complex query.
In welcoming the campaign Dr Francis said,
"The Minimum Wage is one of the greatest gains for people at work over the past decade. The 'It's your call' campaign will help provide those most at risk of underpayment in Aberavon with the advice and support they need to make sure they are getting the minimum wage and to report it if they are not."
"The campaign unit is a great awareness raiser, but there's also lots of advice online about ensuring you're receiving the correct wage or call the NMW hotline on freephone 0845 6000 678 for advice and enquiries."
