MP backs British Legion Manifesto
27th November 2009
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has given his full backing to the Royal British Legion’s General Election Manifesto.
Dr Francis said,
‘I am giving my full support to this Manifesto because it champions the cause of the whole Armed Forces family covering Service personnel and their families, bereaved Armed Forces families and veterans and their families.
I am impressed that the Manifesto highlights such basic human rights as providing bereaved Armed Forces families with independent legal advice during inquests, making NHS priority treatment work for veterans with injuries caused by Service in the Armed Forces and tackling poverty among older veterans and widows.’
Dr Francis added,
‘I have had discussions with local veterans including Tom Fellows, President of the Royal British Legion Port Talbot, who urged me to take a lead with him in campaigning locally for the Manifesto. I have agreed to launch a local campaign, in support of the Manifesto with Mr Fellows.’
Mr Fellows stated,
‘I am delighted that our MP Dr Hywel Francis will work with me and the Royal British Legion locally to fight for a better deal for servicemen and women, their families and our veterans. They deserve our support: they have served their country well. It is up to us to ensure they get justice now.’
