MPs condemn car plant closure

Welsh Labour MPs have today condemned the announcement of the closure of the Linamar car components plant at Fabian Way.
Dr Hywel Francis, the Labour MP for Aberavon where the plant is located said,
‘Welsh Labour MPs deplore this decision. It will mean the loss of 200 valuable local jobs. I have tabled an Early Day Motion today in Parliament with my neighbouring MPs including Sian James, Nia Griffith and Martin Caton.
We deplore the fact that the work will be transferred to sites overseas. We have urged the Secretary of State for Wales to intervene with the Linamar Corporation and seek their re-consideration of their decision.
We have congratulated the Unite union on their long campaign to secure the plant and pledged our continued support.’
