Kate Burton visits Parliament
10th February 2010
Actress Kate Burton, the daughter of Richard Burton, recently visited the House of Commons as the guest of Dr Hywel Francis, the MP for Aberavon.
Dr Francis said,
‘I was pleased to show Kate around the House of Commons and discuss with her the plans for recognising Richard Burton’s enduring legacy in his home town of Port Talbot within my Aberavon constituency’.
Dr Francis, who is chair of the Richard Burton Advisory Board at Swansea University said,
‘Following Sally Burton’s important decision to deposit Richard Burton’s papers at Swansea University a great deal of work has been undertaken to establish the Richard Burton Archive and Research Centre. The University has accepted my proposal that there should be an Annual Richard Burton Lecture’.
‘There are also a number of initiatives being planned in and around Port Talbot with the full support of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and Swansea University.’
‘Kate is delighted with all these developments as is Sally Burton both of whom will be present later in the year for the opening of the Archives and the unveiling of the local initiatives’.
