Big turn-out for Burton Lecture
3rd October 2011
The first ever annual lecture in Port Talbot in memory of Richard Burton is expected to have a big turn-out according to joint organiser local MP Hywel Francis. It will take place this Tuesday night, October 4th.
Dr Francis said,
‘The Richard Burton Lecture by National Theatre Wales Director John McGrath has attracted a lot of interest locally. There is a deep local pride in our first great star Richard Burton and I am sure many will come simply to honour him’.
Dr Francis added,
‘But many will also come to hear about the achievements of our most recent star Michael Sheen and the outstanding success of his play ‘The Passion’ last Easter which was the climax of the National Theatre Wales’ first year of existence.’
‘Many people who participated on ‘The Passion’ will be present including members of the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre who will give a short performance of their work.’
‘The performance and lecture will take place from 6.00pm onwards in the Port Talbot’s Princess Royal Theatre and Richard Burton’s widow, Sally, who has generously endowed the lecture, will be present. Everyone is welcome and entrance is free.’
