Wider backing for new campus says local MP
10th February 2011
Dr Hywel Francis MP has welcomed the growing support for the proposed second Swansea University campus to be located at Crymlyn Burrows in his constituency of Aberavon.
Dr Francis said
‘It is very encouraging that the decision of the Labour-led Welsh Assembly Government to back the new Campus is receiving wider and growing support. In answer to my recent Ministerial Questions, the UK Government has welcomed the development.’
I agree with its assessment that the new BP supported Campus is intended to allow academic researchers to collaborate with companies such as Rolls-Royce so they can commercialise ideas. I agree too that this will help create thousands of jobs and put more that £3 bn in the economy of South West Wales.
I know too that this is a view that is shared by my Assembly Member Dr Brian Gibbons and overwhelmingly by our constituents.’
