MP welcomes the Innovation Campus in Crymlyn Burrows
27th January 2011
The decision on the Welsh Assembly Government to back, in principle, the Innovation Campus earmarked for Crymlyn Burrows has been welcomed by Aberavon’s AM and MP, Dr Brian Gibbons and Dr Hywel Francis.
Dr Gibbons and Dr Francis said
“As the AM and MP representing the area where the campus is to be housed we have been squarely behind the development of the Innovation Campus from the start because of the potential it has for helping to drive the economy forward within the region.
“The decision by the Assembly Government to support the project is the final piece in what is has been a complex jigsaw given the amount of partners involved in this exciting project. While there are still some finer points to iron out we are delighted that in principle the scheme is to go ahead.
“We would like to congratulate all those who have worked tirelessly to bring this regionally important project to fruition and look forward to seeing the work beginning on the campus as soon as possible. We would particularly like to congratulate the University, NPT Council and BP for building this strong and unique partnership.
“The decision by the Assembly Government is a vote of confidence in the industrial future of Wales. The Innovation Campus will provide the spring board for a new era of collaboration between academia and industry. If Wales is to realise its goals of being a small, prosperous clever country then developments like the innovation campus are vital.
“Swansea Bay and Wales needs to be at the leading edge of manufacturing and the innovation campus will provide real opportunities for this to happen.
“We are aware that the Campus will have an impact on the community at Crymlyn Burrows and it is important that the University authorities now positively engage with the local residents regarding the plans for the site”.
