MP welcomes University planning success

5th December 2012

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has welcomed the decision by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to approve Swansea University’s proposed new Science and Innovation Campus at Crymlyn Burrows. Dr Francis, in whose constituency the Campus will be located, was one of the earliest backers of the proposal.

Dr Francis said after the decision,

‘This is a landmark day not only for my county borough and my constituency of Aberavon where the campus is to be located but also for Swansea University and the whole of South West Wales.

Higher Education initiatives of this kind are the engine of the new economy providing high quality and highly skilled jobs for the future. The Welsh Government under Carwyn Jones’ leadership, the County Borough Council led by Councillor Ali Thomas and the University’s Vice-Chancellor Richard Davies are all to be congratulated along with the European Investment Bank for backing this excellent initiative.

I am also proud to have worked with my Assembly Member David Rees and the local Councillor Harry Bebell on helping all this to come to fruition.

I look forward very much to welcoming the construction workers and eventually the new students and staff to this exciting development.’
