MP Backs New Safety Bill

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has given his support to a Bill which gives greater protection to building workers.
Dr Francis said
‘I was very pleased to give my full support to Labour MP Luciana Berger who has introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill which will strengthen health and safety in the construction industry and tackle the scandal of the high number of deaths on building sites, as many as 50 last year alone.’
Dr Francis added
‘As a member of the trade union group of MPs I was pleased to see over 60 MPs backing this vitally important Bill which has the support of the building workers union, UCATT. There were also many MPs present from Unite, the NUM and my own union Community.’
Dr Francis concluded
‘The Bill has now passed its first stage and will have its Second Reading in the Commons on Friday 27th April.’
