MP challenges coalition policy on carers
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has challenged the Conservative – Lib Dem Government to support the extension of rights for carers.
In a speech during the debate on a Private Members Bill on Carers Dr Francis called on the new carers’ minister, Norman Lamb, to assist unpaid carers back into work in England by following the support now in place in Wales and Scotland.
Dr Francis said
‘As a former carer and author of the Carers Equal Opportunities Act of 2004 I know how important it is to provide help for carers to get back to work if they so wish.
I was re-assured by the Minister that he will meet with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carers and consider developments in Wales and Scotland when drawing up new carers legislation.’
