MP welcomes Tata reassurances

Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis has welcomed Tata’s announcement today that the rebuild of Number 4 blast furnace is still on schedule.
Dr Francis said,
‘Tata’s announcement confirms that the £185 million project to rebuild the Number 4 blast furnace will go ahead and preparations to start the project in July are on schedule.
I note that the relighting of the furnace will depend on market demand. I am sure management, unions and the local workforce will, as ever, work closely to achieve the best way forward for Port Talbot.
Dr Francis added,
‘I am also reassured that Tata remains committed to steelmaking in Wales and I know they believe, as I do, that Port Talbot has a major part to play in that.’
