Aberavon MP Backs Postal Workers’ Strike
28th March 2013
Aberavon MP, Dr Hywel Francis, is supporting postal workers in their strike action on Saturday against the closure of the Crown Post Office in Port Talbot.
Dr Francis said,
“I will be proud to stand in solidarity on the picket line with Communication Workers Union members on Saturday in their fight to safeguard vital postal services in their community and against their privatisation.”
“The Crown Post Office in Port Talbot provides an excellent high quality professional service to the locality and is in many ways the heart of the town in Station Road.”
“After an overwhelming ballot of Communication Workers union members throughout the country (75% in favour of action in an 81% turnout) local members are fully justified in wishing to protect local jobs and services.”
“Port Talbot is one of 76 Crown Post Offices announced for closure or franchise. The local staff are well trained, with a wealth of expertise between them and they deserve our support.”
“I have indicated my support for the Parliamentary Early Day Motion backing the universal postal service obligation and would urge the Post Office management to change their minds and save our valued Crown Post Office in Port Talbot.”
